Hello,
New to this forum, but long time Linksys user. Had a WRT54G back in 2003 and used until 2014 when it started rebooting itself constantly. I replaced it with a refurbished E2500 at that time.
The E2500 lasted until the last few months when it began to just cut off all connections - wired and wireless - at random times about 3 or 4 times a week. Unplugging and reconnecting the power is all I could do to get it to reconnect. Then it would be fine for another day or three, depending on it's mood.
Now, I've purchased and set up a new EA7500 v.2 router to replace the E2500.
Wi-fi speeds are great. Getting almost the full 100Mb/s that the Cox internet we use is giving us (the best I ever got out of the E2500 was, maybe 25Mb/s),
The problem is that we have two Galaxy S8s in the family. On both phones, for some reason, apps that connect to their own servers are suddenly taking up to 2 minutes to connect. I have two forum apps that take that long to connect home, and the Google Play Store takes about 1 to 2 minutes before downloads for new or updated apps begin. Once the downloads start, they are fast, but just that initial connection seems to take waaay to long.
It seems to be something with this router since that was never the case on the E2500. Also, if I turn wi-fi off and go to the mobile network, connections are instant with no delay.
To be clear, not all sites are affected. Typing in an address in a browser is instant - even to the same forums that the related app has issues with. The USA Today app does not seem to be affected. But other news sites, and every RSS Feeds app I use takes up to two minutes to pull in new feeds. I've tried uninstalling the problem apps and reinstalling, and it doesn't make a difference.
As I stated earlier, problem also occurs on my son's S8.
Devices that don't seem to have such problems includes; an old BlackBerry Z10 (apps connect quickly - both BB10 native apps and android apps), an iPhone, two Fire TV sticks, a Kindle Fire, a Wii-U, a Nintendo Switch, 3 PCs (one is ethernet wired direclty to the router) and oddly enough a Galaxy S4.
Is there possibly some kind of compatibility issue with the Galaxy S8s? They seem to be the only problem devices so far.
Is there some setting on the router I could check. I plan to run through it again, maybe resetting it and starting over, but if there is anything else anyone can think of that I should look at, please let me know.
One thing I'll do is set a fixed channel. It was fixed on the E2500, but it's set to auto on the EA7500. I know it shouldn't matter, but that's the only specifically different setting between the two routers that I can think of.
I appreciate any other suggestions anyone may have.
Thanks, and good evening.
