E2500 Download speed

$

When I check download speeds through the E2500 they are in the 39Mbps range.   When I connect directly to the modem I get 60+ Mbps??

I pay Charter extra for 60 so I would like to get what I pay for and Charter blames the E2500 for limiting the speed?

Any help/recommendations would be appreciated!

E4200 - Ipad

My husband and me both own an Ipad. For some reason, we always have to reset our wifi (on/off) on our Ipads in order for it to update our email, facebook, etc.  I don't have to do this on the phone. Why is this.  And why is the service on wifi so slow. Is it the router itself? Do I need a newer router?  My daughter gets faster service just using the phone service than the wifi.

Modem for Linksys Wi-Fi Router E900 N300

I bought this wifi router when the wifi in my Linksys WAG160N died! I wrongly assumed the E900 N300 would have a modem in it as I couldn't think why anyone would make a router without a modem!  We have no firber connection yet in my village. Can anyone tell me what sort of ADSL modem I need to buy? I tried plugging it into my WAG160N (as the cable connection still works) without success. Thanks in advance for any help.

Hi Everyone,

I'm using a WRT1900AC router. And I have a Synology NAS in my home network with PPTP VPN server enabled. However I found that I cannot start a VPN connection with my phone when I'm not at home. I have already turned on PPTP passthrough and have proper port forwarding rules added (port 1723 and 47). Can anyone tell me what did I missed? Thank you.

Is the LinkSys E2000 router and any other LinkSys routers affected by this new security exploit?

Ref: http://searchsecurity.techtarget.com/news/2240237097/Home-router-security-vulnerability-exposes-12-million-devices

Ref: http://cve.mitre.org/cgi-bin/cvename.cgi?name=CVE-2014-9222

Check Point has uncovered a widespread home router security vulnerability, dubbed Misfortune Cookie, that could allow attackers to gain control over millions of devices.

A newly identified vulnerability could expose approximately 12 million residential network gateway devices to attack, endangering home networks and any business data that may traverse those networks.

Lior Oppenheim, a researcher for network and endpoint security vendor Check Point Software Technologies Ltd., based in Israel, was the first to uncover CVE-2014-9222. Dubbed Misfortune Cookie, the vulnerability is more than a decade old and is the result of an error in the HTTP cookie-management mechanism in affected software versions.

Hello,

I recently bought this router and everything works wonderfully with the exception of file sharing between my PC (WinXP) and my Mac. On my old NetGear router it worked just fine... is there a setting I need to select?

router looses address at ssid change

Once I change the SSID or set the WEP password, I hit the apply button and then, when it's done and has a continue button, I press it , but  get nothing.  It will no longer communicate on 192.168.1.1.  It is working since my devices will connect with that password, it just won't talk on the ethernet.  Any ideas??

EA4500 Firmware upgrade failed

I'm trying to upgrade the firmware on my EA4500. It's currently at  2.0.37 and the latest firmware appears to be 2.1.41. The router is set for automatic update but that appears not to be working. When I click check for update, it just sits there spinning with nothing happening. If I download the firmware file and try manual update it gets to 98% then says upgrade failed. Am I doing something wrong or is there something wrong with the router?

SLOW WRT1900AC

Hi All.  I just purchased a new WRT1900AC to replace a WRT54G.

My Laptop had always been pretty fast on the wireless network, but after installing the new 1900AC, it became S-L-O-W. as anything.

Often times I could not even connect to some web pages.

It is a Dell Inspiron 1420 with a 802.11N card in it.

I could not stand it any longer as my laptop on wifi was useless, so I hooked up my old WRT54G again.

Can anyone offer up some suggestions to get the 1900 and my laptop to play nice?

Thanks for any assistance.

I tried hard to love the WRT1900AC

But three days of torment and issues solved that problem for me. This product has loads of potential, I hope it lives up to some of it. In the hopes that Linksys listens, here was my experience.

Annoyances

  • You cannot assign a static lease outside of the DHCP Address Pool. Example, printers are .10 thru 20 and I want my dynamic pool to be .50 thru .100. Nope, printers would have to be in the .50 thru .100 range.
  • The second issue is that I cannot add static leases unless the router has seen the device. There is no manual way to enter MAC address. This makes quick setup painful since you essentially have to reboot network appliances to get the router to see them so you can manipulate them. Then after they get an address you don't want them to have, make them static, give the address you want, then go back and reboot the device! This turned what could have been a 20 minute setup into hours...
  • Scheduled radio turn off is limited since I cannot schedule a guest network to shut off.
  • Categories are not intuitive. Administration is really in Connectivity? I didn't realize reboot was only done for troubleshooting.
  • Parental Controls needs a copy schedule.
  • Guest network should have an option to limit bandwidth and have a schedule like the regular network. I want to kill the guest network but leave the main network functional.
  • Having devices and allowing us to name is a great idea, but, if we are going through that amount of trouble, provide local name resolution for the name we edit.

Issues

  • The system would hang frequently. Cycling power while it was hung would reset all settings. Not a good design.
  • Unexplained loss of WAN connection. The connection from the cable modem was good (plugged laptop in and it worked without issue). Required restart. Happened twice, usually after powering up a new to the router wireless device.
  • Twice I would get unexpected errors and the media prioritization wouldn't work without unexpected errors. Hard reset using back button and starting over resolved the issue.
  • I would block all internet access for my IP Cameras using parental controls but they would still show up in the internet usage as having used bandwidth. I didn't waste time testing on another device since I was stuck having to reboot devices so the router could see them so I could assign addresses.
  • Port forwarding for HTTP when using both instead of TCP wouldn't work. Setting it to TCP would allow it to work.
  • This router reset on me 3 times. The 4th time I put it in the box and gave it a ride back to the store. I hope they fix some of the issues so I can repurchase when it is a bit more mature...

1900AC Online Devices: 0

After some period of time the online devices count goes to 0 and it shows no DHCP reservations.  I know this in not correct.  This router runs a campground WiFi Network with an average of 10 to 15 devices all the time.  I have WiFi turned off in the router itself.  After a reboot the online devices number is accruate and it shows DHCP reservations.

I have to reboot the router weekly to clear this up.

Brand new E800 wireless issues one client keeps dropping (using linksys PCI wireless card)

I just replaced a wrt54g2 with this Linksys E800....I set it up manually as I do with all rotuers I setup, I matched the SSID and key and set the Ecryption to WPA2 Personal,  though it doesn't say if it's AES or not?    I also before putting any wireless clients on the router I upgraded the firmware to the latest.  There s 2 Chromebooks and they get online fine, the computer closest to the rotuter a Dell Optiplex windows 7 pro with a Linkys PCI wireless G card will connect for a second shows signal as excellent then it goes down with a red X and doesn't come back up.   I used a wi-fi analyzer on my phone and it shows an excellent signal in that room where that computer sits.

I've tried to reserve an IP address in the router,  I've tired clearing everything and re-setting everything up..nothing seems to work.  It's on Channel 1 as was the old router,  Ive also just set it to use 28mhz as opposed to 40.  Right now it's in mixed mode as most devices are N with the exception of that PC being G.

Other then that I'm not sure what to do as no other hardware I've put on the router has a problem,  but it was working fine on the old router,  but the router has gotten flakey and needs resets so it's time it's replaced.

SMS over WiFi Port?

I have a 12 year old son who doesn't seem to get the message about what is appropriate subject matter for text messaging. He does his texting on an iPod Touch (no cellular), so it goes over wifi. Is there a dedicated port that iMessage uses to send sms over wifi that I can simply disable to block this activity? Thanks!

Really strange issue, cannot access one particular website

Hi,

I have an Cisco EA2700 and I've just today updated it to the most recent firmware in an attempt to be able to connect my new website and cPanel.

The domain is www.dtjmstudios.com and there's a cpanel at cPanel.dtjmstudios.com

I know my new web server is not down because on 3G on my iPhone I can connect to this website and other websites on this server.

I also when connecting my computer to my cable modem directly I can see my website.

When, however I am routing through the Cisco EA2700 on either wireless or wired connection, I get a "Time Out" or similar in all latest and major browsers including IE, FF and Chrome.

When I open up command prompt and try to ping, I can resolve the correct IP address for the domain name.

So far I've tried to update the firmware, I still cannot access my web site. I've done a Factory Reset and I still cannot see my website.  I've made sure that I do not have any Parental Controls, I don't have any DMZ, I don't have any port forwarding.  I am using plain and simple, out of the box NAT with DHCP.

So far, I don't have a problem connecting to any other websites, just mine.

I've gone into the "Troubleshooting" section and tried to PING, and it resolves fine from the router also.

I'm a little bit at a lost right now, I have no idea how to fix this.  Could this be a routing table issue or something?  How do I verify and I thought a Factory Reset would have worked?!?!?!

The other unusual thing is that, just a few weeks ago, I could access my website, no problems whatsoever!

Please help, I'm really beginning to pull my hair out and throw this device in the trash!

Thanks

David

No ethernet when the alpha laptop is turned off

There's the wireless router: Linksys Range Plus WRT110

And there are the units alpha (A) and beta (B). Alpha is the laptop that the router installed on (1st input in the router). And beta the other laptop at the second (2) input of the router.

When the A laptop is turned off there's no ethernet (internet via cable) at the B laptop. Only via WiFi.

Changing to Static DNS Servers on EA4500

I'm having problems with BT's DNS servers and decided to change the DNS settings on my Linksys EA4500 router to Google's to avoid having to change the DNS settings on each and every device in my house. So I entered 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 as Static DNS 1 and 2 on the basic setup page, saved the settings and rebooted the router. After the router was back up I checked that the new settings were still there (they were) and then checked the router's status page and found that BT's primary and secondary were still active with Google's nowhere to be seen. Why could that be? have I missed something in the configuration to tell the router to use my server settings rather than the IP's defaults?
