I hook up an external hard drive and set up the DLNA media server. It's working great with any DLNA compatiable players in my network.
The only glitch I found is the router grab the ROUTER NAME and use it as the DLNA server name, there is no way to change the DLNA Media Server name to another name. Changing the ROUTER NAME has no effect on the DLNA server name as well. It just stuck to the old router name.
It's a bit silly I think. You shouldn't expect a user to reset the router just to change a different DLNA server name.
I bought this router a couple of weeks ago and it seemed to be working fine until the last couple of days. While the wired devices work as expected, the wireless is God awful slow at times. I did a cold restart on the router and that seemed to resolve things for a while, then it went back to being slow. It is not an issue of range because I'm maxxed out no matter where I go, but it seems that it's not doing a very good job with handling internet traffic over the wireless network. I'm hoping this gets addressed with a future furmware upgrade or if there's anything you would recommend, I would be glad to try it. Thank you.
I have an o-l-d Westell 6100 modem, but it still works just fine. Last week, I began having weirdness and connectivity issues with my old Linksys WRT54G wireless router. I followed the instructions step-by-step on DSLReports to changed to a bridged connection (all 6 pages of it) and things worked find...for about 18 hours, and then went down again.
I could connect with straight Ethernet from modem to computer, so I figured it was time for a new router and went out and bought the AC1200.
Now, I'm am connected just fine but am wondering if I am optimally connected.
192.168.1.254 (AT&T login/configuration) has me logged in as PPPoE with my password and username.
If I try to set the router to PPPoE and put in my username and password -- nothing. I have no internet connectivity.
If I set the router to Automatic Configuration - DHCP and leave the modem at PPPoE, I'm fine and all connected.
Now, since I do not totally understand DHCP and PPPoE, I'm not sure what the issues might be -- if there even is an issue -- with being connected this way. I changed the router IP to 192.168.2.1, but I'm not even sure why -- I just read here that some folks did this and it solved some issues. I initially could not get my Ethernet printer connected, but I changed its IP address to match the router range, and that's all good.
I'm also using the OpenDNS servers.
Anything wrong with this setup? Should both the modem and router be PPPoE? Or does it matter, as long as I'm connected?
TIA ~ HurricaneSara
How is the IP number for the Guest network set? When I tried this, it came up with 192.168.3.1. Enabling this feature caused conflicts with other systems that I have in place. Is there any way to configure/edit this IP range?
I see this in the output from the sysinfo.cgi script:
guest_lan_ipaddr=192.168.3.1 guest_lan_netmask=255.255.255.0
Old router AC adapter:
Out - 12vdc; 500mA
In - 60Hz; 100mA
New router AC adapter:
Out - 12v; 1.5A
In - 12v; 1.5A
Can I use the older router adapter will no ill effects? It is in use now and everything is working okay. The cord on the new one is way too short to reach my plugin outlet!
The Ethernet cable was also too short, but I substituted a longer one.
Why do they make these things so short?!
HI
I'm having a problem setting up static routing. I keep getting the message "invalid static route". I have an E1550 router and my frimware is up to date. I have tried a few different gateway addresses ie 192.168.1.1, 127.0.0.1 and my router's address on the net, but I keep getting the same message. Has anyone else had this problem and been able to fix it?
I purchased this router in September 2012. The only reason I kept it was because I jumped on the bleeding edge and assumed the few bugs I had would be fixed soon, ( a few months at the most ) but each firmware degraded the equipment.
The first issue I post was 10-24-2012.

EA6500 - ERROR_FAIL_GET_WAN_SETTINGS
I've got it all setup etc, and initially after I've got all the port forwarding etc setup I get great performance (130+mbps), after a few days though this performance drops to about 3-4mbps!
The only way to get performace back is to reset to factory defaults, re-do the config.... I can't even restore a config, I have to do it from scratch.
Any ideas? I can't go on with it like this, it's terrible!
I am seeing someting strange. I stick a USB stick (SanDisk Cruiser 16G formatted to NTFS) and my WRT1900AC router sais that is "Unsupported format" until I reboot the router.
Am I doing something wrong here? Any Recommendations? Firmware updates? Anything?
Also, to PROPERLY get secure folder access for FTP, you need to turn on serure folder access and then enable FTP. If not done in this order, anonymous users will have access to files even though the web interface for the external storage configuration indicates that secure folder access is enabled.
I recommend browsing to the http://192.168.1.1/sysinfo.cgi page after setting up FTP to ensure that "anonymous" is not listed. If it is, you need to turn off FTP, disable then enable secure folder access, then enable FTP. This seems to be working for me. After doing all this, broswe to http://192.168.1.1/sysinfo.cgi again to ensure that "anonymous" is not listes in the group of settings at the bottom of the page.
I recently purchased an EA4500 in Australia.
The Box shows Model No. EA4500-AU
I upgraded the firmware to latest, but disliked smart WIFI so back graded to 2.0.37 using this advice:
Now the region appears to be set to EU and the vailable 5Ghz channels are restricted to The EU region.
http://192.168.1.1/SysInfo.asp
Gives:
Vendor:LINKSYS ModelName:EA4500-EU Firmware Version: 2.0.37.131047 Firmware Builddate: 2012-03-22 04:24 Product.type: production
And these are the channels available.
Australia should match USA 5Ghz channel availability.
How do I fix it?
Cheers
My previous network was a WRT300N that was connected to the internet and a WRT54GS that was connected to the WRT300N LAN-to-LAN. Everything worked fine, my wired network printers worked, hd home run prime was visible, etc. So I purchased two WRT1900ACs to replace those two routers. I first replaced the WRT54GS and everything worked the same as before. I then replaced the WRT300N with the other WRT1900AC, setup DHCP on it (with reservations) the same as the WRT300N, and now my Windows 7 desktop cannot access my network printers or hd home run. I can ping them, but their respective utilities cannot find them any longer. The network map of both routers show the devices. Both are setup with DHCP reservations. Since everything worked prior to the WRT1900ACs I am not thinking it is an issue with the PC (or firewall on the PC). I disable NAT, firewall on the cascaded router also. I contacted Linksys support and we were not able to resolve. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks
Jay
"Is Cisco 3550 using a WS-G5486 Gigabit module? What's SFP module would you use to connect a Cisco WS-C3750X-48P-L PoE switch ? Does anyone have experience with SX to LX adapters and if they are reliable?"
A:Hi, to connect them well, you would need to use a GLC-LH-SMD transceiver for this, and a LC-SC single-mode patch cord (if they're being connected directly without an intermediate patch-panel).
I was trying to configure my WRT1900ac last night and had problems with DHCP reservations.
I wanted to manually add all the IP addresses prior to switching everything over to the router (to avoid any potential conflicts). I changed the router to 10.0.1.1 and wanted the DHCP to start assigning random clients at 10.0.1.100. I have static IP addresses grouped (i.e., 10.0.1.1-10.0.1.9 as network hardware, 10.0.1.10-10.0.1.19 as computers, 10.0.1.40-10.0.1.49 as TiVo equipment, etc.).
When I tried to manually enter everything, I was receiving an error message stating an invalid IP was entered. The reserved IP addresses should be outside the range of assigned IP's (or at least it is with most routers). I don't want random devices assigned IP's under 10.0.1.100 in case I need them for future reservations.
If I am using "Obtain DNS server address automatically" in my TCP/IP Properties where does the E4200 resolve addresses from? I do not have any DNS settings set in the router.
My issue is pretty simple but really hard to understand on a logic standpoint.
I have a new EA6500 (v1), I hooked it up to the network and set it up using the default router password which is "admin". I set up the PPPOE connection for my internet and then, as soon as it is connected to the internet, I'm not able to connect to 192.168.1.1 anymore because it says my router password is invalid. If I just unplug the WAN cable and refresh it, the router password now works.
I tried changing it and it keeps working only if the router is not connected to internet. When it is connected to internet, I click the "local access mode" but get the same "invalid router password" error. If I connect using my Smart Wi-Fi account, I get a "error_gets_network" error that disappears after ~1sec and then it goes back to connection page, or sometimes it will just ask for the router password which won't work anyway.
I have the latest firmware but I still manually reinstalled it without any success. I tried a few hard resets too but the problem is still here and it is really annoying since I can't go to the router settings without unplugging the WAN cable from the router. And I can't link my smart Wifi account either obviously since the router password isn't recognized anymore if I'm on internet.
Any ideas??
I tried with latest version of Google Chrome (cleared cache and everything, and since it's working when the router is not plugged to internet, I don't think it's a browser problem). The interface doesn't work at all with latest IE version (even in compatibility mode, the interface keeps telling me to download the latest version of IE, that's really ironic).
Just purchased an E1200, for home, and its working good so far with everything except our iPhone 5 and 5c.The connection is there, with strong signals, but is EXTREMELY slow. I've been googling issues with iPhone and slow wifi problems and can't seem to find anything consistant. Access Point (Bridge)? WEP?
Just installed this router. I have a small business and we leave the computer on just about all the time. Several times I have lost internet connection thru router and I can not get it re established unless I reboot computer. We have a static Ip from Charter and with even resetting the ethernet several times it will not re establish a connection unless I reboot. Any suggestion
