Hello, I'm a bit frustrated right now but I will remain professional in my comments and I am posting this in hopes that someone more advanced in wireless routers may be able to assist me. I have had my new MR9000 wireless router for 2 days now. I upgraded routers from my 10 year old Linksys E2500. I upgraded due to my ISP abilities to provide me with much faster service than the E2500 can handle. I am now up to 1GB download and 50MB upload.
I've been on the phone for over two hours and still don't have my issue resolved. Last night I was told by a customer service team member that my issue would be escalated and that someone would call me back within 8 hours. No call, no voicemail, no e-mail. No follow-up. Of course this adds to my frustration.
Here is my main issue:
I have my WR9000 set up to my liking. In my previous experience with Linksys wireless routers and several ISP's later I have never had DNS issues until I picked up this new router. Unless I have my DNS setting to 8.8.8.8 I am unable to access the internet on my laptops or iOS devices. This setting must be set on the device itself or I am unable to connect to the internet. Here is the error I receive on my Windows 10 laptop in Chrome: DNS_PROBE_FINISHED_BAD_CONFIG error.
Here is what I've tried:
- I've tried setting my DNS settings to this on the router. I am unable to connect with any device when I set my DNS settings to 8.8.8.8 or 8.8.4.4
- Reset the router at least 6 times thinking it had something to do with my configuration. I don't have anything real advanced in my configuration so I highly doubt there is anything related to this.
- Contacted customer service and tried everything they recommended.
- Contacted my ISP. They assured me I should not need to change any DNS settings on my router to connect to the internet. This was true on my E2500. I never changed DNS settings on that router and never had any DNS issues.
- Connected my computer directly to my modem. I achieved promised speeds from my ISP and had absolutely no DNS issues or errors.
- I have made sure that my router is using the most updated firmware version. It is confirmed by the web interface and Linksys customer service.
Why is that I must use a public DNS setting to reach the internet using this router? After being on the phone with customer service/tech help last evening and having no luck fixing my issue they had to "escalate" to the next tier of support. The rep assured me I would receive a phone call with 8 hours. That never happened. Tonight after work and prior to me writing this post I was told by the chat agent that I should call the same number I called last night. I explained that they couldn't help me and that they had to escalate my problem. They said that someone usually contacts within 24-48 hours which is much more than the 8 hours I was quoted last night. The chat agent today also stated they would escalate my issue case to a supervisor but no supervisors were available at this time. huh?
The router works well and my speeds are amazing on all my devices. This is a great router I just can't figure out the DNS issue(s).
Any ideas? Thanks for any input.
