Hello! I'm new to this forum so I'm not all too farmiliar with posting about issues of this nature, so I'll try to be as discriptive as possible. Sorry if it runs on a bit long.
The Issue: When I stream video games on Twitch.TV from my computer (that is connected wirelessly to the Linksys router), my internet will often disconnect for a second or two. It does this with most games but not all. It seems as if the more data I'm uploading during streaming I do, the better chance it will disconnect, however when I upload multi-GB videos I have no disconnection issues. These issues were not present on my previous router. My job requires I be streaming and uploading big files on a daily basis so this is causing quite a bit issue.
The Details: I recently hooked up my Linksys E1000 about a month ago and installed all of the software on the disk that came with it. After a month of attemping to stream video that I used to be able to stream without an issue before my old router died, I realised that the router may be the issue. When I stream now, my internet will disconnect temporarily. During this time that it disconnects, I am the only one dropped from the router. The computer that the modem and router are hooked up to retains it's connection.
It can't be a performance issue with my computer as it's always been able to do this without issue. In fact a week ago I got a new, much more powerful CPU however that didn't fix the issues. Also after doing much troubleshooting on the OBS forum (Open Broadcaster Software) they figured out from my logs that the issue was dropped frames followed by the internet disconnecting me, meaning the issue was somewhere on the internet side of things.
When the internet disconnects me, it only lasts a second or two before it automatically reconnects, however it continues to disconnect me every 10-30 seconds as long as I'm attempting to stream.
The Linksys E1000 has the most updated firmware right now. I got it off the download page for the router this morning after realising that it had out of date firmware. I downloaded the instructions, installed it successfully, restarted it for 10 second, unplugged it for 10 seconds, then had to re-use the install disk as it changed our name and password for the router for some reason. However, after doing that it now says it's the most recent build and all of the devices in the house can connect perfectly.
Despite this, the issue still is present. I can not connect my streaming computer via an ethernet cable to test that as I live in an old victorian house and downstairs is where the only jack we can set up the internet at is. I also can't test streaming on the computer that the router and modem are hooked up to as it's quite an old computer and wouldn't be able to handle live streaming video. No changes to our internet plan or my wireless internet card in my computer have happened since getting the new router.
We have made no changes to the settings in the router other than turning off the guest network as we don't need that, and of course naming and putting a password on our network.
My connection to the internet on my streaming computer is actually quite good and stable. The only time I have any issues whatsoever is while attempting to stream. Uploading or downloading very large files (10GB+) does not cause any disconnections.
If you need to know absolutely anything about my system specs or anything really, just let me know. I want to be as cooperative and helpful as possible.
