Bridge Mode Weird

I had sucessfully set up my ea4500 in bridge mode before.  Recently I had to use it as my main router and reset it to do so.  When I again tried to set it up in bridge mode I had a problem.  I set it to "Bridge Mode" and set the IP address to 192.168.1.2; subnet mask to 255.255.255.0 and gateway IP to 192.168.1.1.  When I hit enter, I got an "Invalid IP address".  After several times at tryinbg this, I called a Linksys Tech who after trying several other things told me to also input "192.168.1.1" in the DNS1 slot.  I have never had to do this before, but it seemed to work.

Anyone have a reason why I would have to do that.
