WRT54G2 Dropping Connection with Access Restrictions Turned On

We recently replaced my 13-year old's Nano with a Touch, which means that he can now access the internet from (almost) anywhere in the house.  So I did some digging and found the WRT54G2's Access Restrictions.

I've had the WRT54G2 for over 5 years, and it's been extremely reliable.  I am a programmer (although, ironically, not necessarily PC-savvy!) that works full-time at home, and I have no problems with the network.  But now that I have set up Access Restrictions, it drops its connection once or twice a day.  Before it drops, it gets pretty slow.  Once it drops, I unplug the router, wait for 60 seconds, and plug back in.  Then, everything is working again.

I haven't found other people (in forums) mention the same problem, but I'm hoping that someone can help me out.

Access Restrictions are as follows:

  • Status: Enable
  • Edit List of PCs: IP Range 01: 2 ~ 254
  • Days: Everyday
  • Times: 24 Hours
  • Blocked Services: NONE
  • Website Blocking by URL: blank
  • Website Blocking by Keyword: naked, nude, etc...

I have 3 polciies due to the number of keywords that I'm trying to block, since each policy allows only 6 keywords.  The policies are all set up the same way except, obviously, the keywords.

The WRT54G2 is model V1, and the firmware version is 1.0.01.   Will upgrading the firmware help?  The Linksys Downloads page, for model 1.0, says "No firmware/driver download available".

In Access Restrictions, should "IP Range 01" be 100 ~ 149 instead of 2 ~ 254?  I'm trying to restrict our family desktop, my work laptop, iPad, and Touches - anything in the house with internet access.

Thanks in advance for your help.
