This router is awesome, the best I've ever owned, and I've owned a few. The setup was smooth (less than 10 minutes). All of my dead zones were now alive. "linksyssmartwifi.com" was everything I'd hoped router/network management would be. Yada dada dada.... Hugs and kisses...
However, after about 6 hours or so of superb operation, the router just shuts off. All of the LAN and Wireless connections are gone. The Linksys logo on top of the router goes dark. Ethernet indicator lights on all of the LAN ports are also dark. The only signs of life are the two indicator lights for Wi-fi and WPS. That's it. The power switch, still on, was never touched.
Power up the router by simply unplugging and plugging it back in (different UPS socket this time) fixes the problem. Around 6 hours later, he's down again.
I took the router back to Best Buy and exchanged it. Obviously this particular unit has an issue with it's power supply or is overheating and powering down to protect the internal components. New EA8500, exact same issue. Dead after around 6 hours or so.
I called Linksys Support. Since this router is just released, I had to go through a special team of engineers still evaluating it's performance. The Tier 1 support engineer could not help me.
During the installation of both routers, there was an automated firmware update. I'm wondering if that's the issue. I do have the option of rolling back the firmware update. Has anyone else wrestled with this issue?
