I am trying to reconfigure my home networks.
We merged two households.
Originally: Time warner cable > Motorolola Surfboard > Ooma Telo Number 1 > Cisco E2500 Router > Netgear Prosafe 16 port 10/100 switch > ethernet wired to the rooms of the house including PC, Roku, wifi printer #1..
Now: upstairs on one of the Switch ports I added > Ooma Telo Number 2 > WRT54G with DHCP disabled > PC and wireless printer #2
Roku was getting content from switch fine but I wanted to be able to stream from the upstairs PC and the WRT54G just wasn't strong enough. So instead of upgrading to an N router I bit the bullet and bought a Linksys 1900AC.
I am wrestling with replacing the WRT54G with the 1900AC...I have tried to set it up the same way but my PC only connects to it on wifi when I set up DHCP disabled...I dont know why. I am working on this to try to crack it.
However I have a bigger question:
If I want to be able to share information between the two networks, or to access content from one network to the other, can I configure as follows:
>192.168.1.1>E2500 downstairs network with her OOma in E2500 DMZ (her PC, printer)
TWC ISP>Motorola Surfboard>Netgear 10/100 switch >192.168.1.2 >1900AC Upstairs network with my ooma in DMZ with PC etc
>Roku
>Other device like smart tv or apple tv
I guess my question is to avoid daisychaining the routers can I have them equally on the switch or do I need a router between the Surfboard and the Cisco switch? And is the Ooma in the DMZ the best placement?
Thanks in advance
(afterthought confession: I know your first reflex might be to put that sexy 1900AC in front of the switch and put the e2500 upstairs in my office but then my hot new router is going straight into her 10/100 switch and I don't get the hot toy in my office....)
