OK, so about 2 weeks ago I updated to the latest firmware Ver.1.1.8.164461 because I was experiencing some bugs when I first got my WRT1900ac with the activity lighting on my router always constantly staying on (no clients connected) which made in another thread here... (which i will update later) .... so I thought all was well as I only had 3 devices connected and the activity lights would turn off whenever the wireless devices were not connecting or looking for a handshake to this router. I thought all was well. I guess I thought wrong .... (I am going to update the other thread.) I thought all was going well I only had 3 devices connected in my home presently.
1. laptop on XP using wifi wireless g @ 2.4GHz (barely used)
2. desktop on Windows 7 using wifi wireless ac @ 5GHz (constantly used)
3. desktop on Windows 7 using Cat 6 Lan cable connection. (always used)
So only 3 devices. My sister came over on friday (3 days ago) with her laptop and android phone. She stayed at max 3-4 hours. She played around on her phone (Samsung S4) wifi games while I factory restored her laptop (which was to sell). I allowed her both devices to connect to my 2.4GHz network while she was here. After she left I figured all would be fine with the router. Did not use the laptop XP since thursday 18/12/2014. All weekend I noticed that the 2.4GHz activity light was on solid (sigh) again even though no devices were connecting to it. The 5GHz light was turning on & off as usual behaviour when a device would either connect or disconnect to it. Since it was more then 3 days I figured the lease time for both of my sisters devices would have expired 1440 minutes so no devices should be connecting to 2.4GHz wifi except my laptop which has been off for 4 days now.
So I decided to log into my WRT1900ac only to discover something funky going on the main screen, network map and troubleshooting. I will post pictures to prove it.
It says I have 6 devices connected?? Yes 6.
It is showing that the XP laptop is connected both wifi 2.4GHz and lan at the same time (2 devices).
It is showing the Windows 7 desktop wifi 5GHz connected wifi and lan at the same time as well (2 devices).
It is showing my sisters laptop and her android as both being connected by LAN to the router (2 devices).
Can someone explain to me what is going on? Is this some serious bug? Right now I am typing this on my DESKTOP PC that should say TINGZ-PC connected via LAN. It's not even showing up!! But yet I'm connected right now via the internet.
Why does it say I have 6 devices here, the same laptop and desktop both being connected LAN and my sisters laptop from 3 days ago being connected LAN and her android as being connected as LAN? What is going on .... ?
The uptime on the router has been since 2 weeks since the firmware, I can post logs to staff to prove it, but I would like to know is this normal behaviour? It seems like something is wrong or really buggy. The router has not reset and I have not made any changes to the configurations. So can someone please help me out? I am starting to freak out here ... I don't want to reset the router (because of the uptime) and I want to show the staff here what is going on. Maybe you can tell me what to do?
There you have it under the troubleshooting tab ....
Both my sisters laptop and android phone seem to be magically connected via LAN (KAIA-PC & ANDROID) even though she hasn't been here in 3 days ... and was never connected via LAN only wireless so the lease should have expired.
Both my wireless laptop 2.4GHz and wireless desktop 5GHz seem to be simultaneously connected via wireless and LAN with the same IP addresses and 2 different type of mac addresses. I didn't know it was possible to do that .... wow.
Anyone?
