I have the linsys E1200 router.
My ISP recently upgraded my speed from 20Mbps to 50Mbps. I was a bit dumbfounded why I wouldn't get that speed wirelessly after I confirmed that the modem indeed delivers the promissed speed. I checked the router, I checked the wireless adapter and indeed both promise speeds way above those 50 Mbps, the specifications say 300 Mbps. I even checked manuals and everything and yes, wireless data range it says up to 300Mbps.
So I finally call customer service. Very soon he tells me that I can expect those speeds ONLY if I connect the router via a wire to my desktop. That the router delivers only 30 Mbps wirelessly...
I feel being lied at. This is completely misleading and in my opinion an attempt to intentionally mislead potential buyers.
site where Linksys shows a comparison of router specs
If you follow the link you see the E1200. And you see how it promisses a speed of up to 300Mbps. If you scroll down you find a very small footnote "however you will only get a 10/100 network speed if your NIC doesn't have gigabit capabilities". My card does have gigabit capabilities... so this translates into 'you get only 1/10 of the advertised wireless speed of this router'. What a big FAT LIE there sales advertisement is!
