I want to give you details before my question, thank you in advance for staying with this...
I took delivery of my EA6900 on 09/16/2014 and was purchased directly from Linksys (refurbished). I've always had great luck with buying refurbished items knowing that the greater majority of businesses want to make sure the product is completely good to go and is checked over harder before going back out... well that was my thought.
Connecting was simple and went without issue but within 15 minutes, problems started creeping in.
Problem number 1 - Wireless or no wireless?? Via a laptop, wireless would say my connection was great and that I had internet access - problem, there was no internet access. I logged into router and it said that I did not have a internet connection. I rebooted the modem, then the router, no change. I did it a second time, no change. I didconnected the router and connected into the modem (Motorola SB6141) and had a great connection.
I rebooted the whole deal upon connecting everything back up... everything worked and was good to go for a few hours.
My daughter while doing her homework online for school (hard wired desktop, not wireless) asked me if the internet was down. I checked via my laptop and the signal again was saying it was fine and that I had internet access HOWEVER going any web page brought up the unavailable page.
I logged into the router again, and it said that there was no internet connection.
Problem number 2 - HEAT - I went to the modem to check the lights (which were all good) to make sure the antennas were tight and that the connections were secure. I picked up the unit and the bottom was HOT! I don't mean warm to the touch, I mean hot like if you pressed it against someone you would burn them!
(Let me stop and add that I read that the router gets warm and setting the router up knowing this, I made a acrylic U-shape mount that the foot pegs would sit on, so plenty of air both top and bottom)
I let things cool down (unplugged) and reconnected everything about an hour later.
Final - I reconnected everything and it started having issues as I described above:
a. hard wired computers would not have internet
b. wireless on laptop would say that I had internet access but there wasn't any via router page.
c. heat - unit was hot again.
I disconnected everything and installed my old router, called support which is having me call customer service to return / exchange the router since it was less than 3 days old.
I joined the forum today and read about ALL issues with the router but I have also read that many are happy with it and have no issues but this is really a 50/ 50 split.
ALL the reviews I have read of this router have been great and I want one of those routers they evaluated becuase they did not get the one I had!
My question - should I return the router and go for another type or manufactureer or get a replacement?
My view on things is that if I spend money for an item it should work from day one out of the package. I shouldn't have to fight it, upgrade the firmware due to other issues and being that it was refurbished, one would think the issues may have been fixed...
Thoughts?
Thank you in advance for any assistance on this!
