I am using an EA3500 router. I have several wired connections (TiVo, PS3, Apple TV) and a connection to one desktop computer. This connection passes through one switch for my home network. Until tonight, everything was working fine. Tonight, my wired connection to my desktop computer stopped working. My wireless connection to a laptop was working fine but the wired connection would not connect to any webpage. From the router, I was running a Ethernet cable to a switch, which fed my desktop. From the router, I also ran an Ethernet to a switch which fed my TV, TiVo and PS3. After this problem occurred, I moved the cable feeding my desktop to that switch. Now to get to my desktop, I am running from the router, to a switch, to another switch, and to my desktop. The connection now works. However, running ookla speed test, my desktop has less than 1 Mbps, the wireless connection is over 50Mbps. Prior to tonight I had previously tested my wired connection in excess of 50 Mbps. I rebooted, then reset my EA3500 to factory defaults and reset all previous passwords. 1) why must I run through a router to get internet access 2) why is my speed test so slow on the wired connection?
