After installing my AC1600 dual band router it stopped worked after a few days. Only have two connections to the wireless router, a desktop and a smart tv. Lost connection to both. Called technical support and they walked me thru reconnecting to the wireless network. After a successful connection, the tech said the problem was my desktop. That it needed to be cleaned up and optimized and that they could refer me to someone who could connect to my pc viva the internet and complete these processes for me. That it would be much cheaper than it would cost locally and that this would cure any future problems. It was late, I was tired plus the cost seemed too high. The tech explained that if it was done later that it would be necessary to spend a lengthy amount of time to create the problem and that if I would do it now they would reduce the cost. I finally agreed and paid by debit card.
Really do not feel comfortable with all of this and for what was done the cost was extremely high. I feel as if I have been scammed. To convince me that this needed to be done the tech had me pull up task manager and ask how many programs were running. There were 80 running. He said that no more than 10 should be running. After all of the processes were finished I checked Task manager again. There were 60 processes running....this was after the tech said that no more than 10 should be running! This feels like a scam and I think I have been taken advantage of. Do not know why one desktop would cause lost connection to the smart tv plus feel mislead about the number of processes that should be running on the desktop.
I should have known better, that this was something that needed to be done NOW rather than later. Also he stressed that the warranty was for one year and did not mention that the tech support was for 90 days.
It appears that Linksys is using one problem to generate more income.
Am very anxious to hear a reply and also if this message is posted to the public.
